    Dr Sein Lwin – Spine Surgeon and Neurosurgeon in Singapore

    Dr Sein Lwin is a spine surgeon and neurosurgeon in Singapore, at the Gleneagles Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Hospital.

    His specialty is in endoscopic endonasal and open skull base surgery, pituitary tumours, vascular surgery, cranial nerve disorders and peripheral nerve conditions.

    Dr Lwin has been practising medicine for more than 25 years. He has performed more than 300 complex skull base tumours and pituitary tumours. He also started the earliest centre on endonasal endoscopic skull base surgery with the ear, nose and throat team at the National University Hospital of Singapore, and led a renowned course on endoscopic endonasal surgery with Pittsburgh University and ENT colleagues at the National University Hospital.

    Prior to private practice, Dr Lwin was a senior consultant at the National University Hospital’s division of neurosurgery and the University Spine Centre. He was also the director of the neurocritical unit at the National University Hospital.

    He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Medicine 1, Yangon, Myanmar, and later received his master’s degree. He completed his neurosurgical residency and fellowship training at Queen’s Hospital, London, UK. He worked as a consultant general surgeon and neurosurgeon in Myanmar before he joined the Singapore National University Hospital. He also completed a master’s degree at the National University of Singapore and did his fellowship training in endoscopic endonasal pituitary and open skull base surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, USA.

    He conducts research on minimally invasive surgery and endoscopic surgery for skull base tumours and evaluating patient outcomes in functional recovery following these surgeries. Most recently, his research is focused on functional outcome improvement in minimally invasive spine surgery for spinal cord tumours.

    Dr Lwin is also a programme director of the National University Health System’s neurosurgical residency training. He was formerly an assistant professor in the department of surgery at Yong Loo Lim School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.

    Dr Lwin is a recipient of a Long Service Award (15 years) at the National University Hospital and a Clinical Practice Improvement Program Award.
