Dr Tan Ying Chien is a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon known for his expertise in congenital ear reconstruction, cleft and jaw surgery, and aesthetic procedures.

Raised by a cardiothoracic surgeon father, he was encouraged early on to pursue a surgical path. He graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1996, later becoming a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and earning his Master of Medicine in Surgery from NUS.

He began his Plastic Surgery Specialist Training at Singapore General Hospital (SGH), and toward the final phase of his training received a Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship for advanced training at the world-renowned Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan. During his yearlong programme, he refined his skills in cleft, jaw, and aesthetic surgery while developing a deep commitment to ear reconstruction for congenital deformities, an area often regarded as an intricate blend of surgical mastery and artistry.

With Taiwanese and Japanese heritage, Dr Tan also trained under the eminent Dr Satoru Nagata at the Nagata Microtia and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Hospital in Japan, where he further perfected his ear reconstruction techniques. After returning to Singapore, he joined the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, expanding his practice in reconstructive and aesthetic surgery.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr Tan contributes to Operation Smile missions, supporting children with cleft lip and palate conditions in underserved communities. His meticulous nature and appreciation for aesthetics naturally shaped his path into plastic surgery.
