10 Question & Answers

My journey into financial consultancy and insurance was driven by a personal passion for helping others secure their financial future. In tough times, you may not always be able to rely on family, banks or loans. I always plan and grow with my clients. From protecting against worst-case scenarios to creating opportunities for passive income, I realise the positive impact that I am able to provide for my clients’ family during rainy days gives me the deep sense of purpose and fuelled my passion for this long-term career.

I believe in building long-term relationships founded on trust, transparency, and an unwavering commitment to act in the best interest of my clients. To me, quality service means actively listening, understanding each individual’s unique needs, and delivering clear, effective solutions that lead to real, lasting results.

I prioritise continuous education to stay ahead of market trends and emerging financial products. With strong support from our dedicated corporate team, I am able to provide my clients with well-informed, personalized solutions tailored to their unique needs and long-term financial goals. Our team runs regular educational seminar and client engagement events to promote financial literacy, offering our clients the exclusive privileges.

By having open communication with my clients and asking the right questions with a listening ear, I have a better understanding of their life stage needs and financial commitments and objectives. I meet up with my clients regularly and become close friends where my clients share their milestones and life stories with me. We often share personal and professional information, inspiring each other and to grow together with time. I enjoy the travel of the financial journey with my clients and often feel very happy for my clients achieving their personal goals and financial goals.

I avoid technical jargons when I explain to my clients. Besides explanation, I assist clients with access to user-friendly online portals where they can track their policies and claims at their own convenience. As part of my commitment to my clients, my team and I provide clients with exclusive invites to client engagement events such as Movie Nights and educational seminars and thus enhancing the overall client experience and engagement.

Handling complex insurance cases requires both knowledge in insurance industry, claims condition and the fine print of terms and conditions. With the number of years of experience in insurance, I have been assisting my clients from minor hospitalisation claims to severe critical illness and death claims. From my learning in depth for technical knowledge, this enables me to provide best advice for my clients in their future servicing matters.

Medical claims often involve complex fine print, exclusions, and a review of medical history. What clients consider as straightforward and claimable surgeries may not be interpreted the same way by the insurance company. One of my clients had his claim for surgery expense initially rejected. It took several rounds of helping his seek clarification from his GP clinic, hospital and the insurance company, but it was worth it as I managed to help him successfully appeal for his claims and receive the claim payouts. Coordinating between these parties is never easy! Sometimes, it is not just about what do you claim – knowing the process on how to claim is also critical for a successful claim.

One common myth is that the cheapest plan is always the best. I help clients understand that while low premiums may seem appealing, they often come with higher out-of-pocket expenses or limited coverage. The key is finding the right balance between affordability and adequate protection that aligns with both healthcare needs and financial goals.

Another widespread misconception is that health insurance is the only type of coverage a person needs. In Singapore, insurance is segmented into various categories. These include health insurance, accident insurance, critical illness, term life, whole life, and investment-linked policies. Each serves a unique role in a client’s overall financial plan. I guide clients in understanding these differences to ensure they have comprehensive protection tailored to their individual circumstances.

A common mistake is underestimating the importance of coverage limits, co-payments, and exclusions. The reality can often differ from expectations. While we can plan for many different aspects, the unexpected scenario can still happen. Some clients may initially be satisfied with public hospital coverage, but due to longer waiting time, limited doctor selection, or recommendations from peers, their expectations may not translate into actual experience. As a result, they often end up paying additional costs on top of their insurance coverage. That is the reason why clients are always advised to carefully review their policy details to ensure they fully understand what is covered and what is not.

The key to minimising out-of-pocket expenses is a balanced approach combined with comprehensive financial profiling. For example, some of my clients who are currently employed will have basic coverage through their corporate health insurance. I help my clients to regularly review and adjust their coverage to meet evolving needs (whether for healthcare or retirement planning) and ensuring to leverage on their corporate coverage. This ensures that they are not burdened with excessive costs for services that should be covered.
